Communications Coordinator
The Triple Crown for Heart Association is a non-profit organization raising funds on behalf of BC Children’s Hospital Foundation for the benefit of the heart unit at BC Children’s Hospital and the Children’s Heart Network. We organize an annual cycling event called the Triple Crown for Heart in which participants cycle up all three North Shore mountains in one day.
After our 10th annual event in 2019 the pandemic closed our event for two years. We are seeking a Communications Coordinator for the restart of our event July 16, 2022 – this is a part-time unpaid volunteer position responsible for providing communications support through newsletters, updating and maintaining our website and answering inquiries about the event which come through the website. The Communications Coordinator will work in concert with the Social Media Coordinator.
Education and Experiencing Requirements:
The candidate will have strong oral and written communication and presentation skills with good organizational skills and at least English 12 or equivalent. Must have current experience with organizational communications.
Communications Coordinator Job Responsibilities:
Able to communicate proficiently through email, Mailchimp and SurveyMonkey and SquareSpace.
Update, write and edit current web pages to reflect the restart of Triple Crown for Heart 2022.
Communicates effectively with riders, volunteers and committee members regarding event flow and timeline.
Prepares accurate and timely communications which help the community understand event milestones, including but not limited to opening of registration, communications leading up to the event and day of communications in person.
A willingness to be involved with local Media presences leading up to and day of the event if the opportunity presents itself.
Previous experience communicating to large groups of people in person or in writing is an asset.
A collaborative, creative communicator who takes initiative to write newsletters and postings which are a pleasure to read. Artistic ability is an asset but is not required.
Work hours, time requirement:
Committee members meet every 1-2 weeks, 2 hours at a time via Zoom or in person. During the months of April and May time requirement could be as much as 4-6 hours per week. During June and July the time requirement will increase to 5-6 hours plus committee meetings each week. The day of the eventis the third Saturday in July each year and so availability on that day is a requirement.
