Event Director for the Triple Crown for Heart
The Triple Crown for Heart Association is a non-profit organization raising funds on behalf of BC Children’s Hospital Foundation for the benefit of the heart unit at BC Children’s Hospital and the Children’s Heart Network. We organize an annual cycling event called the Triple Crown for Heart in which participants cycle up all three North Shore mountains in a day.
After our 10th annual event in 2019 the pandemic closed our event for two years. We are seeking an Event Director for the restart of our event July 16, 2022 – this is a part-time unpaid volunteer position responsible for providing leadership to the organizing committee and event volunteers that execute the event.
Education and Experience Requirements:
The candidate will have strong organizational and project management skills with two or more years of management or leadership experience, ideally working in a non-profit environment.
Event Director Job Responsibilities:
Develops and provides leadership to a committed and dynamic team, effectively bringing out the best in committee volunteers to ensure appropriate and timely outcomes.
Leads planning and coordination of the organization’s operations.
Communicates effectively with riders, volunteers and committee members regarding event planning.
Supervises the development of an event manual “playbook” with the support of other committee members.
Prepares accurate and timely agenda and meeting communications that tracks progress, captures action items, and event development milestones, including fundraising efforts for the event.
A Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) designation is an asset but not required.
A collaborative problem-solver, the ideal person for this role takes initiative, and has a good blend of both soft and technical project leadership skills.
Work hours, time requirement:
Committee members meet every 1-2 weeks, 2 hours at a time via Zoom or in person. During the months of April and May time requirement could be as much as 5-8 hours per week. During June and July the time requirement will increase to 8-10 hours plus committee meetings each week. The day of the event is the third Saturday in July each year and so availability on that day is a requirement.
